Enjoyable Victorian melodrama. Okay, I liked this one a little better than "Silent in the Sanctuary" so 3.5 stars for me in actuality. The whole time I was reading this book, I kept wishing that Lady Julia would stop this pretention of mannerliness and ASK SOME NOSY QUESTIONS! Why was she so uncharacteristically reserved and wimpy??? But, I guess, if she had done so, this book would have been about 3 chapters long. I foresaw the villains, and their motivations, but points for the unique (if implausible) plot. Brisbane continued to be both Victorian Superman and emotionally weird. Their push-me, pull-you relationship continued to be odd, but the happy ending was great. It was nice to have some resolution. I'm looking forward to the next Lady Julia mystery in 2010.
